Soul, or Spirit, is the incorporeal essence of a living being.
In Gargoyle's Quest and Gargoyle's Quest II, Souls (たましい Tamashii) are used as currency named as Vials outside Japan. In Demon's Crest, Soul (ソウル Souru) and Large Soul (ラージ・ソウル) are recovery items, and Clear Soul (クリア・ソウル) increases Firebrand's life gauge.
In Maximo vs. Army of Zin, Spirits are used on machines and can be obtained (freed) by defeating them. They are used to charge the Grim Meter and obtain Death Coins.
